Owning Your Domain Property

Would you be surprised if I told you that close to 85% of Professional Athletes don’t even own their own domain name? Well it’s true. Memorabilia online stores, fans, domain investors and sports card shops own majority of the athletes’ domains. I mentioned this earlier in a previous post. Why would they own other Athletes’ domain names?

Its simple: To bring money to their pockets!

When someone types in a domain of their favorite sport star and is forwarded to a random online card store, they are hoping you will purchase something relevant to your favorite player. In turn putting money in their pockets. Crazy right!!

I wanted to send this out to all of the athletes that follow my blog and recommend them today to purchase their domain name. It’s roughly 10.00/year and could be one of the best investments you can make for yourself online. Think about your domain name as your own real estate. It’s your property, you NEED to own it.

Do you want unknown people making money off your name in the future? This WILL happen if you become a top 200 prospect. Some of you already are and your names might have been taken already by cyber squatters. If this is the case please contact me and I will do some research to see if we can acquire it for you.

Snippet of Domain Article

Athlete DomainsI recently began writing an article that will be published by the end of the year. The article highlights how few professional athletes own Internet property.

FAQs on the Player Profile Web sites

I received several responses from my last email regarding the Player Profile Web sites. Here are a few of the great questions I received:

1. Am I limited to only one video on my site?

No, you aren’t. On your video page, you have the optional upgrade of unlimited videos. However, the simplest way to get multiple videos is to post the video as part of one of your blogs. You can use the embed code once you upload the video to YouTube and paste that embed code in your blog. Once you click publish, the video will be ready to go! Remember, if any of this terminology sounds like another language to you, we can guide you through the set up process.

2. Do you recommend purchasing all of my son’s domain name extensions?

I only recommend getting the .COM, .TV, and .ME extensions, as others have shown not to hold a significant amount of brand value. Another important issue is the variable domain names you should consider purchasing. For example, someone purchased ChrisGruler.com early in my career and is now trying to sell it to me for $3,000. So I bought ChrisRGruler.com because it is my next best option. This can be confusing so feel free to ask me more questions on this subject.

3. What is the most important video I should put on my site?

Not a highlight reel! Although highlight reels do serve a purpose, college coaches do not want to see the home runs you hit or how many stikeouts you throw in an inning. They are interested in mechanics, body type, movement, fielding agility, demeanor and how you interact with your team. Videos that highlight these attributes hold more value in a coach’s eyes.

Lead Generation Importance

You are a business. You are a person operating your business. You are your business. Which ever way you slice it there is always a need to develop leads online and the process can be endless and overwhelming. While there is a ton of great information out there (I personally like EarnersBlog.com and ProBlogger.net), it is important to decide which direction you wish to take to produce leads.

The obvious choice is to take the social network and social media route, but an often untapped and successful arena is generic domains. Generic domains can be essential for your business to get the competitive edge, especially with regard to local search.

Example:  You are a Chiropractor in Scottsdale, AZ and have a domain name for your business such as CheapScottsdaleChiropractorForYou.com.  Rather than taking a gamble that keywords alone will bring you to the top, why not own the definitive searchable name for your market?? ScottsdaleChiropractor.com is available for only $1500.00. Could you find a better name to dominate your niche market?  This is a steal when you think about the leads that this name can produce.  Five new clients and larger submissions to the insurance provider can pay for it.

So now you have the domain name….

What’s next? There are two important ways to establish leads.

1. Create a Lead Generation Page similar to ours. Customize and brand it for your company. Take it a step further and implement a video of your offerings, along with content, directly targeting localized search (usually three to five words) for your keywords and let it work its magic. You will have to update the content regularly to stay optimized, but nonetheless you can have a substantial Web presence with a solid domain name and an affordable yet effective lead generation site.

2. Forward the domain to your business site. The issue here is the search engines. Rumor has it you need to make sure you 301 permanently forward for the search engines (please don’t quote me, I’m not an SEO guy). This, plus setting up an email account such as Dr.Palmer@scottsdalechirpractor.com, will definitely add some validity.

I have made numerous calls to sell generic domains to relevant business owners and more times then not, I get hung up on. The sooner business owners see the value in domains and lead generation online, the easier it will be to create substantial and relevant leads without placing ridiculous print ads and Adword campaigns to no avail.

Please leave your comments and let me know your thoughts.
